Trinity College London
Trinity offers three series of exams which are all calibrated directly, via external experts, to the six basic levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). All Trinity exams include a live exam with a highly experienced Examiner. The three series are:
GESE - the world-famous oral exams with 12 distinct levels from pre-A1 to C2 of the CEFR allow students to bring their own interests and culture to the exam, leaving teachers and students free to concentrate on teaching/learning English rather than exam technique.
ISE - the popular multi-competence Integrated Skills in English, the first based directly on the CEFR, are student centred and cover 5 levels of the CEFR from A2-C2. The exams are in three parts:
- a portfolio of tasks which allows students to develop their best written exam work over a period of weeks without pressure AND with access to all their resources - even a PC and internet!
- a traditional written exam, available in-centre every month to evaluate students' work under pressure and without external resources
- an oral exam, where students present ther own content, and also talk to the Examiner about their portfolio.
Students must pass both the 2 written parts as well as the oral interview in order to pass the exam.
SEW - the new Spoken English for Work oral exams have 4 separate levels (B1-C1 of the CEFR) and are ideal for those in, or looking for, work (minimum age 16).
These exams include a live telephone task with the Examiner as well as a live presentation of a work-related topic of the own candidate's choice, and other work-relevant tasks.
The 3 series of exams are completely complementary, available on-demand and done in-centre. Our panel of highly experienced Examiners uniquely meet every year at the same standardisation conference so that Trinity's objective examining criteria are uniformly applied throughout the world, as they travel from the UK to our thousands of examining centres.
